investing in our community
We believe that the youth are our future and the future of outsourcing in Cebu. The WebX Foundation was formed to invest in the future of talented Cebuano youth, enabling kids who have no chance of a college education in IT and Art disciplines to go through college, graduate and become talented artists and developers.
Unemployment in rural areas of Cebu is high and a very small number of children can go on to college once they complete their secondary education. Instead they become farm laborers or simply help parents and eat out a living from the land and sea. The WebX Foundation was formed to find talented, hard working rural children and give them the support they need to graduate from college and a guaranteed position within the company if they successfully complete their studies. A WebX Foundation Scholarship includes:
- All necessary tuition fees at a Cebu college for the term of the course.
- Room & meals allowance, so students can live in the city while they study.
- Allowance for uniforms, books and other expenses during the course of their study.
- Return bus fares to their home town for festivals, holidays and special occasions.
Jimbo Nepimoceno is the WebX Foundation's first sponsored student.
Jimbo hails from The far-north town of Borbon and is the son of a shell craft worker, one of many such workers in the province who earn probably 1/2 of the minimum wage in the Philippines. Jimbo topped his class in computer studies throughout high school and had a record of almost perfect attendance . With the help of the WebX Foundation, Jimbo is now in his first year of a four year course which will qualify him as an IT professional. During his the final year of course, he will be given work experience with WebXpress and provided he does his part, he will be part of our team on graduating.
